Utes upend Rams

The Utes have had an up and down season but became bowl eligible after beating Colorado State 35-22 on Saturday.

Utah gained 526, 296 coming on the arm of Brett Ratliff. The Ute quarterback threw for a pair of touchdowns and completed 20-32 passes.

Do everything Eric Weddle took a few snaps at quarterback as well. As the quarterback he had a 6-yard touchdown run that put Utah up 14-0 in the second quarter. The Utes used numerous trick plays in the game. The Utes led 14-o but allowed to second quarter touchdown to the Rams but a failed two point conversion helped them keep the lead. They added a seven-yard Derrick Richard touchdown right before the half that gave Utah a 21-13 lead and they'd never look back.

CSU quarterback Caleb Hanie was 11-for-26 for 183 yards and a touchdown. The Rams gained just 163 yards in the second half thanks in part to the rain.

Utah was pretty good in the second 30 minutes. CSU struck first with a field goal but Darryl Poston and Ray Stowers scored on runs of 14 and two yards respectively. For Stowers it was his first career touchdown.

CSU added a late touchdown but the Utes iced the game after recovering the onsides kick.
