Utah Looking At Louisiana RB

The Ute coaches have set their sights on top 2014 running back prospect Sione Palelei as they continue to develop the program's Louisiana recruiting channel.

Sione Palelei, one of the Louisiana's top junior prospects this past season and a rising star at the running back position, heard from the Utes early thanks to a family connection on the coaching staff and landed an offer back in August.

Since then his recruiting has picked up and the Utes now have a real battle on their hands.

Shortly after Utah offered Palelei the BYU Cougars jumped into the mix with an offer of their own. After attending a couple of summer camps with teams like Alabama and LSU those schools as well as Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC and others have all taken an interest in the Louisiana star.

"I have a couple of offers coming in soon. Ole Miss, LSU, Ohio State, they have all said they like me and will offer at the end of this year. I'm not sure who will offer next but it could be one of them or Oregon or USC, I just don't know."

With his junior year of high school not yet complete Palelei says he's taking his time before he focuses on his recruiting and where he'll ultimately play in college.

"I'm waiting until next summer before I really think about it. I could see myself playing just about anywhere though. I really haven't thought [that far ahead]. I'm open to it playing in Utah. I could see myself playing up there because of my family connection but until I visit I'm not sure yet if Utah will fit my background."

Palelei is a multi-talented back who shines in both the run and pass game. He's got fantastic open-field speed and has the hands of a slot receiver when pulling down passes out of the backfield. His coaches love his versatility so much they even lined him up at defensive back a few times this past season.

Though things have been quiet on the offer-front since August, Sione has still taken advantage of opportunities to scout out teams that he's interested in. He's been to the LSU and Alabama campuses and was on hand at Tiger Stadium twice when LSU played South Carolina and Alabama.
