UCLA Prospect Recap -- Week Thirteen

Johnny Johnson

A look at how UCLA's commits and recruits did in week thirteen action...

Game of the Week: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei def. Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure, 21-0
Mater Dei moved on to the CIF-SS Pac-5 finals after shutting out top-seeded St Bonaventure, 21-0, in a fog-filled evening in Ventura.  UCLA tight end target Thomas Duarte finished with a sack, an interception and six catches for 83 yards in the win.  It was a rough night for sophomore quarterback Ricky Town, who UCLA has offered, throwing five interceptions in the loss.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw def. Los Angeles (Calif.) Venice, 59-10
Crenshaw is back in the City Section finals for the third time in four years, thanks to a blowout win of Venice in the City Section semifinals, and keeping them alive for a spot in the CIF State Bowl Game.  UCLA verbal Mossi Johnson had an interception and a touchdown catch in the win.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly def. Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, 13-10
Like old times, Long Beach Poly reached the CIF-SS Pac-5 finals with a win over previously unbeaten St. John Bosco, using a big defensive night, rallying for a fourth quarter touchdown to edge the Braves, 13-10.  UCLA commit Jayon Brown and the Jackrabbits held Bosco to a miserable 112 yards in total offense.

Bellevue (Wash.) def. Snoqualmie (Wash.) Mount Si, 37-7
The unbeaten Wolverines stayed perfect in the Tacoma Dome over the last decade, beating Mount Si by 30, scoring 37 unanswered.  UCLA commit Myles Jack had three sacks in the win, putting them in the 3A state finals this weekend against Eastside Catholic.

Fresno (Calif.) Central def. Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty, 42-28
The big plays from Central were the difference, a pick-six by UCLA target Johnny Johnson, two touchdown runs and a 57-yard touchdown pass by L.J. Moore, another UCLA recruit who played quarterback, and a 57-yard touchdown reception for Michiah Quick, the 2014 prospect who UCLA has offered, and Central moves on to the CIF-Central Section D-I finals.
