Pac 12 Power Rankings Week 2
Inside The Utes Staff
Posted Sep 9, 2012
A lot of movement in the rankings as teams surge and others plummet
Oregon sure likes to score points, and they did it again against Fresno State. The defense wasn't sharp though and the injuries are starting to mount. The Ducks continue their weak schedule at home against Tennessee Tech.
It wasn't easy going on the road at Syracuse, but USC held off the Orangemen behind big days from Lee and Woods again. The Trojans kick off their Pac 12 slate on the road against
UCLA looks legit under new coach Jim Mora after having another offensive field day against Nebraksa. Running back Jonathan Franklin may have vaulted himself onto the Heisman Trophy shortlist. The Bruins look to keep the good times rolling when they take on a new look Houston team at home this weekend.
4. Stanford (2-0, 0-0)
The Cardinal had a great boune back game after last week's struggle against San Jose State. Duke was match as Stanford controlled the game from the outset. They'll get the test of test this weekend when USC comes to town.
Where did this team come from? Arizona State destroyed Illinois on both sides of the ball in staying undefeated. Keeping that perfect record won't be easy this week when the Sun Devils head to Missouri to take on the Tigers.
The Rich-Rod offense is in full swing as Arizona pasted Oklahoma State. The Wildcats should be able to stay undefeated this weekend against South Carolina State.
Oregon State pulled the shocker by knocking off Wisconsin, helping cool down the seat for Mike Riley. The Beavers have a bye this week before heading to UCLA.
Washington looked like an FCS team against LSU. They were overmatched in all facets of the game while getting blown out in Baton Rogue. Washington should be able to get back in the win column this weekend against Portland State in Seattle.
It started ugly and finished ugly. Utah made a nice comeback against Utah State, but fell short in overtime with Jon Hays taking over for an injured Jordan Wynn. The Utes play their third straight game in the state of Utah when rival BYU comes to Salt Lake City.
10. Cal (1-1, 0-0)
Cal struggled a bit in putting away Southern Utah, but ultimately picked up their first win of the season. Things get much tougher this week when the Bears travel to the Horseshoe for a tough one against Ohio State.
The Cougars got all they could handle from Eastern Washington in a nail biter before pulling out a close win. The Mike Leach experiment is taking a bit longer to get going than most anticipated. Wazzu heads back out on the road this week to take on UNLV.
The Buffs look to pick up back to back wins this weekend against Fresno State.
