Pac 12 Power Rankings Week 1
Inside The Utes Staff

A bit of movement in the Pac 12 Power Rankings after a tough weekend for the conference
*3 first place votes
The Trojans rolled over Hawaii and Norm Chow behind
. The running game was mediocre, but wasn't needed as the passing attack lived up to its billing as the best in the country. USC now heads out on the road to take on Syracuse.
*1 first place vote
The Ducks put up 50 on Arkansas State in the first half showing no signs of slowing down despite the losses of LaMichael James and Darron Thomas.
and De'Athony Thomas look like one of the most explosive duos in the country and the defense was stout until the backups and third stringers came in. Things will be a bit tougher this week when Fresno State comes to town.
The Utes pitched a shutout against Northern
in one of the most dominant defensive performances you'll ever see. The offense was adequate, but against a team that was extremely overmatched, not reaching 500 yards was somewhat of a disappointment. John White was a rock again though going for over 100 yards and Jake Murphy looks like he could be the best tight end in the conference. Now they'll head up to Logan for a Friday night battle with the Aggies.
It wasn't pretty, but the Huskies took down a solid San Diego State team in Seattle. While the offense didn't look great, the defense was much improved over what we saw in 2011. Now Washington will really be tested when they head to the SEC to take on national championship contender LSU.
The Bruins looked great offensively putting up close to 650 yards in a 24 point win over Rice with 3 touchdowns runs of over 70 yards. The defense struggled at times with the option in the first half, but made adjustments in pitching a second half shutout. Adjustments have not been the norm for UCLA football over the past four years. Now they'll get to test their metal at home against a top 15 ranked Nebraska team.
era is not off to the start they wanted in Palo Alto. The Cardinal got the win over San Jose State, but it was a struggle throughout in the 3 point victory. We all knew Stanford wouldn't be as good this year, but they don't look like a top 25 team. They'll get another home game this week against a Duke team that should be improved.
The Sun Devils rolled over Northern Arizona by a score of 63-6 in Todd Graham's debut as head coach. The post Brock Osweiler era looks to be in good hands under sophomore Taylor Kelly. They'll have a tough battle at home against a retooled Illinois team.
8. Cal (0-1, 0-0)
is officially on the hot seat after the Bears fell at home to Nevada. This young team will get better, but not a good start in a brand new stadium. They'll look to rebound next week against Southern Utah.
It took overtime after many missed opportunities, including two touchdowns being called back for penalties and a short field goal that hit the upright, but the Wildcats won Rich-Rod's debut over Toledo. They'll now host an Oklahoma State team that won their season opener by 84 points.
The Beavs game with Nicholls State was postponed due to Hurricane Isaac. They'll host Wisconsin next week.
The Mike Leach era is off to a slow start after BYU completely shut down the Wazzu offense in a 30-6 drubbing in Provo. The Cougars will need to be more physical going forward if they want to get to a bowl game. They should be able to pick up their first win of the season next week against Eastern Washington.
12. Colorado (0-1, 0-0)
The Buffs looked bad in a loss to Colorado State. Jon Embree is only in year 2, but this was a team they beat last season. If they can't rebound this week against Sacramento State, Embree Watch will be on.
