FOX Sports NEXT caught up with Monrovia (Calif.) wide receiver Mason Bryant at the IMG Madden West…
Bryant Has the Talent and the Brains
"My recruitment is pretty good so far. It's slow at times and busy at times, but I've been having coaches come by the school almost every day and talking to a bunch of coaches on Facebook."
With schools like Fresno State, Yale, Boise State, Harvard, and Duke coming to visit him at school recently, Bryant is enjoying the attention and hopes to add to his offer list.
"Harvard is the only offer right now (Army has since offered). I think Duke is pretty close. They said that if I go to their camp and perform well, they'll probably give me an offer. Northwestern has been out a few times and their coaches seem pretty interested as well."
With some of the more prestigious schools in the country either showing interest, or having already offered, it's safe to assume that the 6-0, 173 pounder is taking care of business in the classroom.
"I have a 4.4 GPA. I take my grades very seriously. Grades come before football and I try to do the best I can in both."
With Bryant playing three positions, his future college position is still unknown, but he's receiving most of his interest at two spots.
"Right now, mostly receiver, but I also play defense and kicker. There are a couple of schools looking at me as a kicker, like Cal, but most schools are looking at me as a kicker. I play safety as well, but I can also play corner."
Utah is one of the schools that is starting to show some interest and Bryan is looking learn more.
"I've had a little bit of contact with Utah. I think it's a great school. One of my friends graduated from their a couple of years ago. I'm interested in Utah and they've been showing a bit of interest in me."
WIth his stellar academic standing, Bryant is weighing each school's academic reputation when sorting through each university.
"Definitely academics is the most important thing. I want to be at a school where academics are just as important as football. If football doesn't work out past college, I want to make sure that I have a degree from a school that can put me in a good place to get a good job. Also a school with a high winning percentage because I like to win."
Wanting to take his time and hopefully pick up more offers during his senior year, Bryant isn't expected to make a decision anytime soon.
"I'll probably decide closer to signing day. A lot of schools want to see how my senior year plays out before they offer so we'll see how that goes and it will allow me to have more options when I make my decision."
Between now and then, he'll have a busy summer while prepping for his senior year.
"I plan on going to Duke, Harvard for their camp, and maybe Yale. I'll be at Cal's receiver camp, and then Stanford's camp."
