DB/WR Hayden Weichers is closing in on his first offer...
Wide receiver/defensive back
Hayden Weichers
plays for one of the top high school programs in the state at Bingham, and the high level of competition he faces every day in practice has helped prepare him for a senior season that he hopes brings in multiple offers.
"My recruitment is going pretty good. I've been hearing from
Utah
,
BYU
,
Colorado
,
Stanford
, and
Vanderbilt
, and
Boise State
."
Weichers is still without his first offer, but one school says they're holding one for him that he may be able to earn over the summer.
"BYU has told me that they're holding a schoalrship for me and that I'd have to prove it to them at their junior day. They're the one school that has talked to me most about offering."
The local wide receiver has spent time at Utah, including taking in a Junior Day during the season.
"I went down to Utah during the season for the
Oregon State
game and toured the campus. I think it's a really great program. They moved up to the Pac 12, which has opened my eyes a lot more. I like how aggressive they are in their play calling. I really like Coach Hill. He's a pretty laid back guy. I've talked to him a few times while at my school. I also have a lot of friends up there like Harvey Langi, Seni Fauonuku, Star Lotulelei, and Austin Lee."
With Weichers focusing mostly on local schools, neither of the big two in Utah or BYU is standing out at the moment.
"I'd go to either school. They're both up there and pretty much tied. I'd like to see where I get the earliest playing time and see which one fits me best. BYU is recruiting me as both a DB and a wide receiver. I love to play offense because I love being a playmaker, but I also love defense and smacking some helmets."
The 6-0, 170 pounder is LDS and has mission plans, although those aren't set in stone.
"I plan to go on a mission. If I went to a school and had a chance to start as a freshman, then I'd probably not take a mission and just play football."
Weichers will keep i close touch with the Utah coaches, hoping to pick up an offer, one that may result in a commitment shortly after.
"If Utah offered and they really impressed me, I might commit, but I'd like to wait until closer to the season, but I want to weight all of my options."
