The Mission Hills (CA) 2013 DB prospect had a solid junior season and is starting to open eyes at schools around the West.
The defensive backfield will be an area of high-priority for
Utah
throughout this recruiting period, and the Utes already have their eyes on a number of talented prospects.
Devin Holiday
, a 5’10” 170lb junior from San Marcos, California is one of the targets the Utes are after.
Holiday began hearing from Utah just recently but immediately took the opportunity to show the Utah coaches what he’s got.
“I emailed the coaches my highlights and they got back to me and said they liked it. I’m hoping to hear more from them soon.”
Holiday has also been in contact with coaches from
UCLA
,
Colorado
,
New Mexico State
, and
Hawaii
, but has yet to land his first offer.
“I’ve been talking to UCLA and they’ve said that they’re close to offering me. They’ve asked me to go up there for a junior day because they want to see me in person.”
Summer already looks to be busy for Holiday. Along with his plans to attend Junior Day at UCLA, Devin plans to participate in summer camps at
USC
,
Arizona
,
Arizona State
, Cal, and a Nike training camp in Oregon. Though he recognizes he won’t have a lot of free time, he knows he’s doing his best to give himself an opportunity to play at the next level.
When asked who his favorites are Holiday was quick to name the Utes among his preferred schools along with some other big-name programs in the West.
“Utah,
Boise State
, Arizona State, Arizona, and Cal - Those are my favorites right now and schools I hope to hear more from.”
Holiday doesn’t know a lot about the University of Utah but says he has begun to do his homework on the school to get a better feel for what Utah is like.
“I like to see how schools workout programs are. I’ve checked out some YouTube videos and I like how Utah works. I like the community too, I really like that atmosphere.”
When choosing his school there are a few things Holiday will be looking for.
“Definitely academics because I know football doesn’t last forever. I’m also looking for of course early playing time, I want to get on the field and get myself noticed. The atmosphere too; I want a college-spirit city, not a dead city where nobody’s into football. Fan support is big.”
Holiday recognizes it’s still very early in the game but says he hopes to take all of his visits before he commits. With his senior year still ahead of him he says he probably won’t worry about making that final decision until his visits are over.
