Cozens In No Hurry

Cozens In No Hurry

The offers keep rolling in, but the Arizona defensive end is taking his time.

The University of Arizona recently joined a growing list of programs soliciting the services of Dylan Cozens, giving the gifted Chaparral (AZ) defensive end a new school to consider.

Cozens already has offers from schools such as Boise State, Missouri, Washington, and Utah, but says he is happy that new offers are still coming.

"It's nice to have new schools notice me."

It's even better when you consider Cozens hasn't played football since little-league.

This year Dylan decided to put the pads back on and good things have happened ever since.

Dylan earned All-State honors tallying "8-10 sacks" while showing great athleticism and a relentless pass rush.

Those raw skills have opened the eyes of a number of top-level programs, including Utah, but the Utes certainly have competition.

"Conference (affiliation) is definitely a factor for me. The SEC is the best conference out there and I want to play at the highest level. Having an offer from an SEC school (Missouri) is cool. I could play in the Pac-12 or the Big East now that Boise is moving, so I have some good options."

Cozens stays in contact with Utah Coach Jay Hill weekly and says he likes what he's hearing from the Utes. The loss of senior defensive end Derrick Shelby for the Utes opens a spot on the line that he can compete for, which is something he's looking for in his school.

"I don't want to redshirt. I want to come in and play, even as a freshman. Committing to a school that wants me to redshirt immediately probably isn't an option."

"If I come in and I'm beat out or I'm not good enough, then I'm open to redshirting. But I want to compete for a starting position right away."

Cozens has already completed visits to Boise State (Dec 3rd) and Missouri (Dec 9th) and will be visiting Washington official this weekend. Utah will host Cozens on January 13th.

A decision could come at any time, though he's not planning on knowing until he's visited a few more schools. When he's ready, his decision will come quickly.

"I'm in no hurry to choose; I want to take my visits and find the school that feels right. I'm not planning on waiting until signing day, though. I'm ready to pull the trigger when I find the right place."
