Allen Picking Up Steam

La Marque (TX) wide receiver/cornerback Bryan Allen picked up his first BCS offer last week from Utah...

La Marque (TX) athlete Bryan Allen has seen his offer list grow at a steady pace, but received a big jump last week with his first BCS offer.

"I have four offers already from UTEP, North Texas, Wyoming, and Utah offered recently. I'm also hearing from Nevada and Utah State."

Allen doesn't report any favorites yet, but anticipates schools separating themselves after he starts taking visits, which start this weekend.

"I don't have any favorites yet. I'm just taking visits and getting a feel for the schools. I'm packing for a vist right now to go to UTEP on Saturday morning."

With Utah being his most recent offer, Allen gives us his thoughts on the Utes and where they fit in to his recruitment.

"I like Utah. Coach Scalley is a cool dude. His main focus for me right now is academics. Going pro is not always there for everyone, so he keeps stressing academics and working hard there. He told me that he thinks I can play corner. If that's what it takes to get the team a W, then I'm all for it. I also think they're doing pretty good so far this season with the amount of talent that is already in the Pac 12."

Allen, who plays on both sides of the ball, is being pursued by Utah at the corner spot that he mentioned, although his heart is at a different position where he feels he can showcase his 4.49 speed.

"He (Scalley) asked me what I'd rather play and I said receiver, but if corner is where they need me, that's what I'll play."

The 6-3, 200 pound athlete is stressing academics and personal fit over everything else when making his decision.

"I want to go to a school that's a good fit for me and my family and I need to see where they stand academically as a school."

With Utah's recent success recruiting in Texas and turning out players like Brandon Burton and Brian Johnson, Allen is intrigued by the possibility of being the next Ute to come from the Lone Star State.

"Scalley told me that they get a lot of people from Texas. It's a great atmosphere and they make it feel like home so I can come in and fit in right away."

Allen will be visiting Utah at some point during over the next two months and is anticipating a decision in the weeks following.

"I've been talking with them and we're trying to schedule a visit for late November or early December. Then I'll decide after I take all my visits so probably in late December or early January."
