South Jordan (Utah) Bingham 2013 defensive tackle Lowell Lotulelei updates his offer list after the…
Lotulelei Keeping Things Open
"I just came back from the Nike SPARQ combine in California. It was mostly testing. I ran a 5.15 40 yard dash. I could have done better. I've also been in the weight room lifting a lot. At D-tackle I get a lot of double and triple teams so I need to get stronger."
With his recent combine results, play on the field, and playing for one of the top high school programs in the country, Lotulelei's recruitment is starting to pick up with more and more visits by coaches from top schools all over the country and has two local offers.
"Utah and BYU are the only two offers right now. Just recently, the Nebraska coach came by our school and talked to me. About a week ago the Michigan coach came out to Bingham and I've talked to the Cal and Oregon State coaches."
When asked which schools stand out, Lotulelei likes the two in school states that have offered and another Pac 12 school.
"Obviously Utah and BYU. I am really hoping on an offer from Oregon. They were one of my top schools when I was younger."
Despite initially saying he'd likely commit at the end of his junior year, the increase in interest may change that plan.
"I guess it depends on what comes. If I get an offer that I really like and is right for me, I'll commit when I'm ready."
As for Utah, the Utes will be in the thick of the Lotulelei race to the end, but aren't a definitive favorite right now despite his brother being on the team, although Lowell talks about how honored we would be to play at the same school his brother does now.
"It would be a great honor. I've always tried to follow in my brother's steps with how successful he's been in his football career. It would be really great to go there and try to accomplish the things he has done and be the best I can be like he's doing right now. I think Utah willl still be in the running, but I'm staying pretty open right now, but they'll definitely be in the running."
